One of the driving questions I held during the creation of this collection was around the perils of uncontrollable uncertainty. This piece, Garden Variety Singularity is a prime example of this precarious state of accelerated motion. I’m reminded of the quote by race car driver, Mario Andretti, “If everything seems under control, you\’re not going fast enough.” While this applies to a great deal of applications in the ‘self-motivation\’ realm, I do hold a cautionary wonder if the speed and intensity of our contemporary moment can unbind and disconnect as well? Is the flying debris ripping off the edges trivial or critical? There isn\’t an obvious single answer, no Garden Variety…, so to speak.
After taking time on this, the unanswered question left in this matter is how time consistency erodes our desire to hold onto the things that are precious to us. This is the place best to begin with this artwork.
