Elements that become Airless Weight

No matter how abstracted or non-representational the artwork veer towards, there are two forces that regularly pull our minds into the familiar; horizon and gravity.  Rather than resists, I embrace them as elements that play with the dynamism of the action.

Horizon we are always aware subconsciously as it is hardwired into our sense of balance.  In this piece, Airless Weight the horizon is easily established with the blue in the upper third of the image blending down into darkness unknown. The remaining details of place is left upon the viewer to complete.  Now about gravity.

Gravity which defines a sense of motion is one of my favorite elements to explore as every geometric shape becomes objectified and develops a relationship to each other.  Using the softening motion-blur in the center of the image, Airless Weight becomes alight with darting movements that appear to expand outward.

The blurred geometries are whizzing out of control while the sharp edged pieces contrast in movement as if barely moving in slow-motion.  This dynamic relationship between sudden and explosive blurred movements, paired with a slow heaving geometric shapes allows us to play with our sense of perception, place and action.
